“Mind-Blowing” U.S. Wealth Inequality

Statistics about how much wealth is possessed by different groups of people can be hard to wrap your mind around. This video visualizes the figured in a few different ways—and the picture isn’t pretty.

The six-minute "Wealth Inequality in America," released last Friday, presents the shocking, true size of the wealth gap in the country.  The Middle Class is barely better off than the poorest in the United States.

In a series of animated infographics, the video lends a visual punch to numbers that are hard to wrap one’s head around. The top 1 percent of Americans hold 50 percent of all investments in stocks and bonds, for example—while 80 percent of Americans share a paltry 7 percent of the nation’s wealth.

But most interesting are the gaps between where Americans think we are and where we really we are when it comes to wealth. A full 92 percent of Americans agree on what a healthy, ideal wealth distribution curve would look like—one that is far more equitable than what we think is the case. (“That is telling, admittedly,” says the narrator. “The fact that most Americans know that the system is already skewed unfairly.")

But this perceived gap between ideal and reality is pocket change compared with the true state of inequality—an ugly curve in which the poorest and middle class are a barely indistinguishable line, while the top 1 percent is, quite literally, off the charts.

What's encouraging is how united Americans are on how wealth should look in our country. But this video is proving to be a real wake-up call to how far we are from that goal. Take a few moments to watch the sobering video below.

As Federal Reserve Board Governor Richard Fisher (a rare voice of reason within the

central banking cartel) notes:

Throughout history, many nations, when confronted by sizable debts they were unable or

unwilling to repay, have seized upon an apparently painless solution to this dilemma:

Monetization.

Just have the monetary authority run cash off the printing presses until the

debt is repaid, the story goes, then promise to be responsible from that point on and hope

your sins will be forgiven by God and Milton Friedman and everyone else.

We know from centuries of evidence in countless economies, from ancient Rome to

today’s Zimbabwe, that running the printing press to pay off today’s bills leads to much

worse problems later on. The inflation that results from the flood of money into the

economy turns out to be far worse than the fiscal pain those countries hoped to avoid.

Income continues to slide in America...in real dollars, few have had a raise since the 1980s

Law-enforcement technology
Stopping vehicle in their tracks -- remotely

The need to stop vehicles remotely was identified by the law enforcement community. In 2010, the characteristics of a squid’s sticky tendrils were combined with the concept of Spiderman’s super-strong webbing to create a prototype of the first remote device to stop vehicles in their tracks: the Safe, Quick, Undercarriage Immobilization Device (SQUID).

Enhancing Army capabilities as new threats emerge

Some twenty-eight nations have some type of weapons of mass destruction capability, with some of them having nuclear weapons or nuclear-weapons capability. The nuclear materials in many of these countries are kept in hundreds of sites without global safeguards in place for securing them. A senior American military official described these loose nukes as the "single biggest existential threat to Western survival." Yet, in a recent exercise, the U.S. response time for deploying 90,000 troops to a crisis area – an area which included loose nukes, other WMDs, or both -- took fifty-five days. U.S. military leaders say this is just not good enough.

Growing challenges to global food security

A new report highlights issues surrounding global food systems and the importation of food into the United Kingdom. One contributor to the study says: “Global food security, and ensuring food is socially, economically and environmentally sustainable, is perhaps the most important societal issue we face. Disruptions to food supply has serious knock-on effects; economically, socially and to the health and well-being of the population.”

Bipartisan proposal makes gun-trafficking a federal crime for the first time

Lawmakers yesterday introduced a proposal to toughen federal penalties for people who illegally purchase firearms for someone else. The bill would make gun trafficking a federal crime for the first time, with penalties of up to twenty years for “straw purchasers.” The bipartisan proposal is an indication that Democrats and Republicans are exploring areas of agreement to reduce gun violence in the United States.

FBI wants 1994 online surveillance law updated

The FBI said the agency’s top priority this year is to update a surveillance law so authorities can monitor in real time Web activities of Americans suspected of committing crimes. The 1994 law, known as the Communications Assistance for Law Enforcement Act (CALEA), applies to telecommunication companies, but only partially to Web-based companies.

Traits Common to Declining Cultures...

Obsession with beauty

Decline of the middle class

Increase of violence (primarily among young)

Decline of the family

Decline of morals

Increase of immorality and ethics among leaders

An insolvent government

Failure of its people to see the decline

A decline in literacy and education

Decline of a belief in a Supreme Being

Do you see any of this happening in America?

The rapid growth of government has crippled our nation and economy with mounting inefficiencies, out-of-control spending, the elected serving their own interests, complex regulation, and lost freedom from invasive legislation such as Obamacare and Dodd-Frank.

Washington is full of government bureaucracy. To highlight, there are 15 cabinet agencies, 32 czars, 1300+ federal and state agencies (479 federal agencies alone). These agencies and czars survive by collecting taxes and fees from you – the taxpayer. This means your money is supporting duplicative agencies and programs that create destructive regulation and taxes, and ultimately destroy America’s small businesses and private sector, but can be saved with tax reform.

How to take America back from dysfunctional Politicians

Without Firing a Shot

More empty promises from politicians! They are more pronounced and grotesque than usual during an election year. But why should we think ANYTHING will be different this time around?

They tell us if we send them money and push the right magic button, our lives will be better and history will be set on the right course. Surprisingly, many people still believe it. This level of gullibility requires very short memories

Genuine change will come when the state is ignored, not reformed. It will come not when politicians are better, but when they are irrelevant.

·        " A nation of sheep will beget a government of wolves." - Edward R. Murrow

Definition of TRAITOR:

One who betrays another's trust or is false to an obligation or duty as in politicians who violate their Constitutional oath and betray the people.

A Nation Betrayed…is bankrupting the nation an act of Treason?

With Bi-Partisan Support, America is turning into a Corporate- Police State

Who will represent the people?

The assault on civil liberties and on due process starting with many of the measures of the Bush Administration. This accelerated under President Obama, who has concentrated power in the White House to an extraordinary degree. By avoiding Congressional approval and his own Executive Branch through the appointment of "czars" ranging from the auto industry to regulation to ethics to climate to consumer affairs, the president has subverted the separation of powers repeatedly in an imperial presidency that is unparalleled.

Crime rates have been dropping for 20 years and yet today there is more danger to civil liberties posed by government than ever before. Our government continues to expand the definition of crime while approving special powers usually found in police states.

As the terrorism threat used to rationalize many of these powers has receded, government power has never been greater or more at odds with the Constitution.

Our government has built an anti-Constitutional framework that can and will eventually be turned against our citizens. On one side we have our civil/criminal system, and the other the growing power of Orwellian dysfunction.

The people of this country are no longer represented by elected leaders or unelected bureaucrats whose draconian unlegislated regulatory powers are killing the spirit of America and threaten not only our economic viability but our national security. They are the ones to be feared, they are the ones who have betrayed America

According to Federal Reserve data, the wealthiest 1% of Americans now have a greater net worth than the bottom 90% combined.

The last time the disparity between the uber-wealthy and everyone else was this extreme was a few short months before the stock market crash of 1929 and the ensuing Great Depression . . . leading some to believe another crash will come in 2013

But none of this has stopped our so-called leaders from…

-Both parties have greatly expanded the size of the federal government when in power.

-Both parties are full of control freaks and both parties have added more layers of ridiculous regulations to our already overburdened society when in power.

-Neither party supports getting rid of the income tax or the IRS.

-Neither party has any intention of doing anything to prevent the coming derivatives crisis that could bring down the entire global financial system.

-Both parties are absolutely showered with cash from the big Wall Street banks.

-Both parties think that the TSA is doing a great job.

-Both parties supported the NDAA and the renewal of the Patriot Act.

-Both parties have greatly expanded the unconstitutional surveillance of American citizens by government agencies.

-Both parties are extremely soft on illegal immigration.

-Both parties have treated military veterans horribly.

-Both parties are absolutely packed with corrupt politicians that are living the high life at your expense.

-Neither party plans to balance the federal budget in 2013 if their candidate wins the election.

-Neither party has a plan that will fix our deeply broken health care system

Successful strategies: Four simple rules for beating bureaucratic red tape

Find out who's in charge * Be persuasive * Be persistent * Push back hard

1. Find out who's in charge. Don’t complain to employees who have no authority to solve problems. Ask to speak to a supervisor. If necessary go all the way to the top.

Strategies for finding out who's in charge

Example:Ask to see a supervisor and don't take no for an answer.

2. Be persuasive.Explain in detail why you should receive assistance. Be reasonable rather than cranky or accusing. Begin with a phone call but if that doesn't work, always put your case in writing and attach evidence — bureaucracies run on paper. If there is an official appeal process, use it.

Strategies for being persuasive

Example: Scathing Letter of Complaint

3. Be persistent.Don’t let the system wear you down. Wear it down. Don’t give up because you’re tired or frustrated — friends, family and support organizations can bring fresh ideas and energy to the battle.

Strategies for being persistent

Example of how friends and organizations can help you

4. If necessary push back, hard.If your request is rejected, call the bureaucracy to account. Bureaucracies act invulnerable. They aren't. Find their weaknesses. They may fear bad news coverage or phone calls to government ministers or a web campaign against them.

Strategies for pushing back

Americans Slip into Poverty

Few in Washington talk about the growing chasm between the wealthy and the middle class. The top 1 percent of earners now take home more than 18 percent of national income - an increase from 1973, when the rich's share of income was 7.7 percent.

...Nothing stops the government from spending cash it does't have however.  More than $8 billion for the TSA, an agency which has never caught a terrorist.  We pay for lavish vacations and golf outings for the President & his wife.

Globalization and technology have triggered an economy that has proven toxic to the middle-class majority. An unfair tax system, where corporations pay little or no tax compared to private citizens, has helped to worsen the situation.

Jobs which once sustained and grew the middle class are now done more cheaply in India and China or by machines.

The Census Bureau revealed 15.1 percent of the US population are now living below the poverty line - 27.4 percent of Black households are officially poor.

Median household incomes have fallen 7.1 percent since 1999.

Government programs such as food stamps and unemployment benefits, are now the only thing keeping millions of US families from falling into complete despair.

Yet, American continues to spend billions on two wars and rebuilding other countries.

Our collective fear is the American Dream is no longer attainable and for the first time, our children will not be bbetter off than the previous generation.

Americans still believe "the rise and fall" of nations is something which happens to other people.

It's time for us to admit and for Washington politicians to recognize that modern capitalism is no longer working for the rest of us.

Virtually every government administration lies about economic statistics. For example, government stats show average unemployment figures at less than 10% but in reality (due to their faulty accounting methods) it’s probably closer to 20%.Personal bankruptcies are growing and there will be another round of housing foreclosures, both personal and commercial.

America has more rules and regulations than any other country.  Much of this red tape and ‘laws’ are created by non-elected bureaucrats, circumventing the legislative process and therefore, harming what was once a free nation.

The Middle Class in America Is Radically Shrinking. Here Are the Stats to Prove it

Editor's note: Michael Snyder is editor of theeconomiccollapseblog.com

The rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer at a staggering rate. Once upon a time, the United States had the largest and most prosperous middle class in the history of the world, but now that is changing at a blinding pace.

So why are we witnessing such fundamental changes? Well, the globalism and "free trade" that our politicians and business leaders insisted would be so good for us have had some rather nasty side effects. It turns out that they didn't tell us that the "global economy" would mean that middle class American workers would eventually have to directly compete for jobs with people on the other side of the world where there is no minimum wage and very few regulations. The big global corporations have greatly benefited by exploiting third world labor pools over the last several decades, but middle class American workers have increasingly found things to be very tough.

Here are the statistics to prove it:

• 83 percent of all U.S. stocks are in the hands of 1 percent of the people.

• 61 percent of Americans "always or usually" live paycheck to paycheck, which was up from 49 percent in 2008 and 43 percent in 2007.

• 66 percent of the income growth between 2001 and 2007 went to the top 1% of all Americans.

• 36 percent of Americans say that they don't contribute anything to retirement savings.

• A staggering 43 percent of Americans have less than $10,000 saved up for retirement.

• 24 percent of American workers say that they have postponed their planned retirement age in the past year.

• Over 1.4 million Americans filed for personal bankruptcy in 2009, which represented a 32 percent increase over 2008.

• Only the top 5 percent of U.S. households have earned enough additional income to match the rise in housing costs since 1975.

• For the first time in U.S. history, banks own a greater share of residential housing net worth in the United States than all individual Americans put together.

• In 1950, the ratio of the average executive's paycheck to the average worker's paycheck was about 30 to 1. Since the year 2000, that ratio has exploded to between 300 to 500 to one.

• As of 2007, the bottom 80 percent of American households held about 7% of the liquid financial assets.
• The bottom 50 percent of income earners in the United States now collectively own less than 1 percent of the nation’s wealth.

• Average Wall Street bonuses for 2009 were up 17 percent when compared with 2008.

• In the United States, the average federal worker now earns 60% MORE than the average worker in the private sector.

• The top 1 percent of U.S. households own nearly twice as much of America's corporate wealth as they did just 15 years ago.

• In America today, the average time needed to find a job has risen to a record 35.2 weeks.

• More than 40 percent of Americans who actually are employed are now working in service jobs, which are often very low paying.

•For the first time in U.S. history, more than 40 million Americans are on food stamps, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture projects that number will go up to 43 million Americans in 2011.

• This is what American workers now must compete against: in China a garment worker makes approximately 86 cents an hour and in Cambodia a garment worker makes approximately 22 cents an hour.

• Approximately 21 percent of all children in the United States are living below the poverty line in 2010 - the highest rate in 20 years.

• Despite the financial crisis, the number of millionaires in the United States rose a whopping 16 percent to 7.8 million in 2009.
